• 6:00 Registration and packet pickup
• 7:20 a.m. Prayer & National Anthem
• 7:30 a.m Walk starts and Vendors/Food Trucks can start selling. (Vendors will be at the Sammie Franklin Pavillon 7:30a.m.-5:00p.m.)
• 8:00 a.m. 5K starts
• 9:30 or 10:00 a.m. Awards Ceremony starts, however it depends on when the last participant finishes.

The Strawberry Sift is the pre-judging of the famous Poteet Texas Strawberries. The Saturday before the annual Poteet Strawberry Festival, local Atascosa County Strawberry Growers hand-pick their premier Strawberries to for an independent third-party judging who selects the SHOWBERRIES that will be awarded the coveted titles of Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Strawberries and Grower during the Poteet Strawberry Festival.

What exactly are “Grower-Select” Strawberries and what sets them apart?

GROWER-SELECT STRAWBERRIES are hand-picked and chosen by local growers from Atascosa County and Poteet, Texas, for the Pre-Judging event known as the “SIFT.”

During this official selection process, the finest strawberries are carefully sifted to determine the top crop from each grower vying for the prestigious titles of Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion to be selected during the annual Poteet Strawberry Festival.

What is the judging criteria used to select the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion?

Judging criteria established by the Poteet Rotary and the Poteet Strawberry Grower’s Association, later confirmed by an impartial third-party judge. Criteria include Uniformity, Taste, Color, Size, and Appearance (encompassing overall look, including aroma).

The Poteet Strawberry Festival Strawberry Judging and Auction is a public event that takes place during the weekend of the Annual Poteet Strawberry Festival.

What is the significance of the SIFT and what becomes of the strawberries processed by the SIFT?

The SIFT serves as the annual selection process to identify the “Best of the Best” from local growers. ALL of the hand-picked strawberries submitted by growers for pre-judging at the SIFT are designated as “Grower-Select Strawberries.”

The judge’s final selections are named “Grower-Select SHOWBERRIES,” which advance to the ultimate judging round during the annual Poteet Strawberry Festival which compete for the prestigious Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion titles. These winning Showberries are then auctioned off to the highest bidders.

ALL proceeds from the auctioned Showberries contribute to funding scholarships for the deserving recipients, including previous years’ awardees pending they meet the qualification criteria. for renewal,
